Tha blank is were it should be
I can only see it been a faulty display as if it was a sensor it would show zero
which means a new instrument cluster with all the recode problems
You can check the sender unit its behind the front bumper but i would have thought the display would still be there
It may be a loose connection in the instument cluster ?
try disconnecting the car battery for 10mins to force a reset, have your radio code handy.
dashpods can be repaired, BBa reman or clusterrepairs...

checked behind the bumper and can see the sensor, i also had the battery off for 30 mins but still nothing, how easy would it be to take the clocks out and have a look to see if any connections have come loose

Have you tried resetting the clock.
On my car,not an A3, I have the date under the time and there is an option to not display the date..

How do you hide the date, I've tried to change the time which I can do but not sure if you can hide the temp display
when pulling the knob to change the clock, after setting the clock and moving on to change the date, the date dissappears.

Tried that but once the time is set it doesn't go to any date or temp,
Well looks like time for a fault code read.
