Hello all.
I have just been to my service agent to get a quote for my car's second service.
It's a 2.0 Tdi CR 140(Nov 2008) on longlife service.I was quoted €180 for engine oil, filter and pollen filter change. The car has done 60,000km so the pollen filter is due to be changed.
I had gathered from Martin's very helpful posts that the brake fluid does not need to be changed until the car is 3 years old,and every 2 years thereafter, and that the coolant does not need to be changed all.
So,just to be mischievous,I said "what about the brake fluid".
He said that they were currently doing a deal where they change the brake fluid and coolant for €60.
Why are the service agents not aware of what needs to be done when service time comes around?

you asked a question - they answered. I see no foul play here?

Maybe I was a bit unclear in my post.
He said that they both needed to be changed at this service.
Why would he say this when it is not the case.

You asked the mech/dealership a question about brake fluid - he informed you of an offer they're running, to try and save you money I should imagine.

I'm not convinced he told you they needed changing - it appears to me he innocently answered a question asked of him.

What is the name of the dealership you visited?

My French dealer has just sent me a booklet with the charges for all the services, what's changed, intervals etc. for all VW models. Also includes prices for tyres etc. It's also available on line.

I get the distinct impression there's not much point in shopping around...
