Hi Folks,
I recently bought my 2005 Passat (B6), I has 140k miles on the clock, but has only 1 previous owner and has been serviced by VW. I was on the motor way yesterday, when there was a beep and the car screen read "Engine Fault Garage" and the glowplug light started flashing, the car also went into safe mode. After I pulled up did some shopping and then started it 30 mins later, it was as if nothing had happened and all was ok. :1zhelp:
Any Ideas Guys/Gals
Thanks for any help,
Scott

Im guessing its a 2.0tdi 140? If so then your about to experience the well known injector failure. Actually quite amazed it was able to keep going and restart.

From what I've read when an injector dies the ecu shuts down completely. ie not even limp mode.
No point guessing, get a fault code scan done

Mine did this, is it a 170bhp?
I suggest getting a diagnostic read, something will have logged in the ECU. Could have just been dirty fuel.

Mine went into limp mode the first for about 20sec, then shut down and wouldn't restart. The second time, it shut down completely but was able to restart it 2-3 times for about 2mins each time. Both times at 70 on the motorway, once in the snow and once at night!

Mine has done this twice now, first time was day before xmas eve, was stuck on the M57 for 4 hours in the snow. That time it was a failed injector which set me back £880.
The second time was last saturday. Again, Engine Fault, Garage. This time took it to my mates at Awesome Gti in Irlam. Turned out to be another injector plus a faulty glow plug.
They recommended changing all 4 glow plugs, injector and also the injector/glow plug wiring harnes as it becomes crispy due to the stupid place VW decided to route it (inside the rocker cover, why put wiring where there is hot oil)
This set me back another £770
I wish I had told them to replace all remaining injectors now as Im just waiting for the third one to go. I'm led to believe that once new injectors have been fitted the new injectors have been modified so as not short out as the originals have been doing
Still love it though (if i manage to fit my Scirocco steering wheel that is)

hi scott, my passat did exactly as you described in your original post. did you find out the problem with your passat? was it the injector ? if so how much did it cost.................. im worried now :(
I had the same problem. Had a look around the engine from underneath, and noticed the boost pipe which is located below the rad was out of place. A slight little tug and all was fine. But............then..........it happend again. The car did not start, nothing came up on the dash and the car wouldn't lock/unlock. Went back to the engine, opened up the e-box took out the big white relay, pushed it back again and the car was back to normal.
Very strange????

My 1.9 105ps tdi has exactly the same problem. Had diagnostic done, and it is the accelerator pedal at fault. Needs a new one. The potentiometer is failing. Anyone know the part number?

What codes did you have. Your accelerator pedal hasn't got potentiometers.

Not sure on the code, vag com, used by my mechanic told me it was the pedal. G-Black, is the pedal for a 1.9? If so how much do you want for it? Thanks

If it is the same as mine, you have a deal. Do you have a paypal account?

Get a scan done first and post the results here - reading the earlier G-Black comments going straight to an injector fault diagnosis is at best scaremongering and foolish. A VCDS or VAS scan will a) tell us what modules are installed including version and b) will show specific fault codes to assist with a more accurate diagnosis of YOUR particular issue and help to resolve it. There are dozens of things that may trigger an engine warning light, some minor, some major and a whole host of others in between.
