OK, for all of you with the Ebay Headunits, or commonly known as Waywell WD6050's, the battery drain is very much real as my Passat Failed to start this morning due to a flat battery after not been run for a week.

I'm looking into this now as it's of great concern. I read this from another site:

"Hi I have a Waywell - huge issue with battery drain if I leave the TSI for 5 days - dealer has had it for week and is at a loss saying the VW multiplexer (?) keeps searching for the VW radio and the multiplexer will not turn off as it cannot find a VW radio - anyway they measure the drain an 1 amp"

This seems likely, however I have no idea with this kind of stuff, never heard of a multiplexer?

One solution is to fit a switch on the 12v Supply to the Sat Nav Unit, however this seems very novice!
The solution I want is to sort the obvious CANBUS issue out.. must be some brain boxes out there?! Can I do something via VAG-COM to tell the car to stop searching for a VW headunit??

I'd like anyone with the unit to comment on how there's performs please as this is a real blow for me, I really don't want to remove the unit!!

Thanks :beerchug:

This will sort it, or do what I'm going to, split the live lead on the radio and loop a switch in, that way when you park up at night, one flick and you know there's no supply draining.

Doesn't the multiplexer connect to the flux capacitor?
The device was located between the headrests of the seats and, as the time machine neared 88 mph, light coming from the flux capacitor pulsed more rapidly until it became a steady stream. Doc originally conceived the idea for the flux capacitor on November 5, 1955 when he slipped and hit his head on his bathroom sink while standing on the toilet to hang a clock.:outtahere:biglaugh:

That is the safest way I guess? Didn't really want to though! Do yours first and take some pictures :) cheers!

Happened to me once so far Tom, car was parked fro about 4/5 days and flat as a pancake......its used every day though so hasn't been an issue really. I'll have to look into it and see is there a better fix than a manual switch. ;)

Hmmm. Have me there, i'll have to pop out the unit and check it. Unless in the user manual theres a wiring diagram ? Think there was IIRC ?? Got the manual handy ?

I had the same issue when I put an upgraded rcd510 in my 06 Passat. I then changed to the eBay unit and the issue stopped.

I know have a Zenec unit in my 09 Passat and fitted the connects2 kit for the steering wheel controls. Works a treat and no drains at all.

It is as stated to do with the car searching for a radio. If you do a Vagcom scan it says radio not found. It's a well known issue when upgrading the headunit. Another way around it is get your hands a newer canbus, and recode it to your car. Should stop the issue!

Newer CANBUS GATEWAY? Or newer red box that came with the CD Player?

Richie you find much out?? CECM's are also in Lowline, Midline and Highline format, so might be upgrading to highline module.
