Hi all,

I have a MY2008 A4 B8 2.0TDI S line. I believe its a 143ps but I'm not 100% sure, how can I determine which variant it is - 143ps or 120ps ??

First page of the service book shows the data sticker https://erwin.audi.com/erwin/audi/files/fahrzeugdatentraeger-EN.pdf or look at the vin sticker under the bonnet

4 digit code example CAGU

If you post the engine code I will find out for you

The engine output (in section 2) is 105KW
The engine code (in section 3) is CAGA

You've a ~140hp unit (kw / 0.736 = hp)

Wikipedia has a good list of all the VAG engines and codes - here are the diesels: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Volkswagen_Group_diesel_engines

bruboy - many thanks for that I think your are correct it is a 143ps unit.

The only reason I am questioning it is that for some reason the computers at all the insurance companies think it is a 120ps unit.

Has anyone else suffered this problem?

The engine output (in section 2) is 105KW
The engine code (in section 3) is CAGA

CAGA is:-

2.0 R4 16v TDI CR 81-132kW
105 kilowatts (143 PS; 141 bhp) @ 4,200 rpm; 320 newton metres
(236 ft·lbf) @ 1,750-2,500 rpm

Look like a few people replied as I was looking the code up :D

Yes my 2010 TDI 170 came up as a 120 on one of the insurance quote sites. And the quote was the same for 120 or 170 bhp which was good news for me.

I see I'm not alone. The quote was also the same for me 143 vs 120.

There may be a lot of B8 A4 owners out there that have incorrect insurance details registered with their insurers. You know what insurers are like, any excuse not to pay out on a claim.

Everyone - double check your car details on the insurance schedule to make sure it lists the correct engine! - i.e. 120 vs 143 vs 170
