Hi
My audi 2.5v6tdi is due for its cambelt soon so been getting some price (wish I hadn't::() but no one can seem to decide if the idler damper needs replacing? I have tried several different indies and main dealers and the answers are varied.
The part is 100 quid so obviously don't want to replace it if not required but equally don't want it failing after six months so do I get it done or not? Also is it best to do the auxiliary belts at the same time?
Cheers.

I have all ways changed the damper on the my last 2 2.5 TDi Audi's I have owned. I never wanted to cut corners after I had the aux drive belt tensioner fail on my first V6 and it totaled the engine as the aux drive belt ended up taking the cambelt off. I ended up breaking the car for parts as it was not worth fixing.

I did the last one myself and to be honest it was a real pita to do.

I am pretty sure you can get the whole job done for 450-500 quid all in shop around some more check the link below no idea if its any good to you but it may be worth investigating.

Good luck
