Hi
I have a 1996 Golf cabriolet and the power hood has stopped working.
I have tested the dash switch and there is power to the underseat relays on both raising and lowering cycles.I have taken the top off of the relays and when I manually operate them the pump runs but does not raise or lower the roof. There is plenty of fluid in the pump and No leaks. There does not seem to be any air in the system.
Is there a hidden micro switch somewhere in the mechanism?.I have tested the boot light switch which seems to only operate the boot light. Does anyone know if there is a control box hidden somewhere that may control the whole system.
I would greatly appreciate any input as I have spoken to 4 VW specialists today and one VW Main dealer all of whom said they did'nt know.

I'm no expert, but...

- check the ignition switch, they often fail and this can stop the hood working (happenend to me once when my car stereo +ve shorted out, it burned the auxiliary power contacts out in the ign. switch).

- if the pump runs when you operate the relays manually but there is no action, check the hydraulics (and ensure the t-key on the pump body is closed).

You seem to be describing two separate problems. I suggest you fix the electric problem first, then look to the hydraulics.

Hi
Thanks for that. It turned out to be a faulty ignition switch and then the impeller in the the pump had split. So I found a repair kit on ebay for £39 + Postage, Which arrived today and it was all sorted in 5 minutes.
Thanks
