My tale of woe
I have a Golf DTI Mk3 which has been great until the really cold weather.
We had 8" snow on Sat 20/12/10, the car started & drove fine, but on the Sunday night the temperature dropped to -19 & on Monday morning the car would not start.
It turned over & even fired once, but I continued to try to sart it until the battery went flat.
Rther than mess around in the cold & snow myself I called out the AA who connected it to their van, but now it wouldn't even turn over.
The ignition lights come on but when you turn the key nothing happens (the lights don't even dim). AA man suggested it could be the starter motor needs replacing.

The starter motor is one possibility but I'd first have a look at the wires connected to it to make they're properly tightened and not broken/corroded.

The fact that your lights aren't dimming probably indicates that there's no juice being sent to the starter motor and that could also be an ignition switch issue.

In my experience, the starter drive will still draw voltage when the key is turned to crank - even if it doesn't turn over.

Also, try fiddling around with key/ignition switch to see if that helps as igntion switch issues are a common problem with MK3's and try to get that battery fully charged.

Good luck.
