Electric tailgate retrofit

Using the search function, I see there was a thread about this quite some time ago, but with no definite answers.

With the sh1tty weather and the grime that gets sucked up onto the tailgate, and the fact that I use it quite a lot and today got a bit dirty, can it be retrofitted?

The B8 is now about 2 years old so maybe there is more experience out there to answer the question.

Probably cheaper to employ your wife or kids to to the dirty!

I think the retro work is not insurmountable but a challange!

easy option is stronger struts that let the tailgate open ?
