!!WARNING!! This post will test the forum filters!!
Got into my car today and noticed a very odd smell. Frankly, it was the smell of ****. Horrified, I checked all my shoes and none of them smelt of crap.
Eventually found the culprit - the driver's side floor mat. Still smelling several hours later in my bathroom! Just reassessed it and not too sure if it is ****, but it's offensive nonetheless.
Question - what do I do? How do I get rid of the "aroma"? I've not got the s-line rubber mat, just the usual one that's in most cars. How can I clean it? Don't wanna wet it and scrub it in case it does some damage and dries like a cheap jumper.
Thanks for your help.

Give it a wash and book an A4 test drive at another dealership than normal and swap them;).

I'm trying not to wake the whole house with laughter, but I'm stifling it so much I'm laughing myself a six-pack! :biglaugh:

I'm interested in the reassessement process. Does it involve a gentle offering up of the alleged soiling to the nasal cavity and a brief but careful wafting coinciding with gentle inhilation?

Thanks for your help. The mats are very robust. If you've got them in the bathroom, get it in the bath with a good dollop of liquid soap and a scrubbing brush. Rinse well and dry flat.
I can only imagine that the presence [of 'Eartha Kitt'] was exacerbated with the heaters blasting on the floor mats. :approve:

I just got a flashback to O-level Chemistry. We were taught not to stick our nose into the vessel and inhale a lung full of chlorine.........

Well folks, the deed has indeed been done. Taking the advice given here and watching a video (yes, a video) from the helpful folks at ehow.com (I kid you not!), I have washed it.
With the help of a supposed hair washing shower fitment, some Persil Small and Mighty and a spare toothbrush, I hosed down the mat with a lot of grime thereunto exposed. Tried to dry it flat but the weather scuppered that so into the bathroom it went, upright in a bucket, right next to the radiator.
Alas, I scored an own goal by impatiently removing it from said position (edge was not fully dry) and placing it in my car.
Now, instead of the smell of cack/****/crap, I have the strong and oppressive damp/dank/improperly-dried-clothes-stuck-in-a-washing-machine stench pervading my lovely motor....

Then replaced toothbrush in holder ready for next user....:D
