Hello, I think my rear suspension is knackered as everytime i go over a bump there is a bang from the rear drivers side, abit like the tyre is running flat if you know what i mean, i havent had time to go the garage due to work, and am a little worried that somethings going to give.

Could it just be a strut that is knackered and will be alright till i get time later in the week to replace it or could it be more serious?

I jacked the car up before and nothing looked untoward but i`m no expert, the car is very bouncy on the back end tho.

Thanks for any advice.

Not unusual for the rear spring to shear - given the state of our roads, or for the shock absorber to leak. Relatively straight-forward to replace, if you have spring compressors, a toasty garage with tea on tap and BBC Radio 2 tuned in.

Hi thanks for that, I`m thinking its the damper that has leaked all the oil out, i`ll have to get some new ones from somewhere,

Just abit worried that its going to collapse or something and as i`m driving 100mile round trip for the next three days i`m even more worried.

Should it be ok?

Thanks

It'll be fine, however the shocks help to ensure the wheels maintain contact with the ground over uneven surfaces, so avoid excessive speed and tight corners. You'll be bouncing on the springs... so take it easy and get it to the garage ASAP.;)

Thanks for that, i think its running on the springsso i`ll just keep the speed down, should of probably changed the dampers a while ago but now its broke i`m going to have to fix it.

Can you suggest the best and cheapest place for dampers, had a look through ebay but will prob give my local motor factors up, just in case,

Thanks again for your help

I use Murrays. Fantastic service, and most parts are OEM direct from Germany.http://serve.mysmiley.net/happy/happy0034.gif (http://www.mysmiley.net)
