Hello everyone ... I'm over from the VW Passat forum, having till recently owned a VW Passat 2005 - 2.0 TDi ... the replacement I have bought is a "2006 Audi A4 Avant SE 1.9 TDi ... When I picked up the car the garage gave me a set of keys and was to locate the second set, this they now tell me they can't do because they haven't got them! ... they aren't willing to pay for a second set of key ... so in other words tough, I have to get a second set myself and pay for them.

Basically what is the most cost effective way of me getting a second set of key for this vehicle?

As well as the key business they said they have misplaced the service book but I'm not to worry as they will find it and get back in touch with me ... as yet not heard from them with regards to having found it ... anyhow there isn't much I can do with them I'm thinking, but if I can sort a spare set of keys at least that will give me peace of mind, to be honest I'm furious over it but what can I do! ...

They have apparently carried out an oil change prior to me taking delivery of the car, but going by the other outstanding issues I'd prefer to change the oil and filter myself!

Am I right in thinking its 5/40 PD oil (505.01 spec) ... if I stick to a 10000 mile oil change or 5/30 (507.00 spec) for longlife oil change intervals?

Any advice much appreciated indeed ... would like to resolve the above issues ... cheers Meds

Was the car advertised as having two sets of keys? Sounds silly but I have seen that in adverts before. If it was then they will have to supply a second set. Threaten them with trading standards if they refuse. Also if the sales contract stated two sets then that is binding.

If it wasn't then you have to buy a second key. I think you can get them off Ebay, otherwise a main dealer. The key then needs to be matched to the cars ECU. Because of the age of your car you wont have the secret key code required to do this with VAG-Com so you will have to get either a main dealer or a good indi to do this as they have to connect to Audi's server in Germany to match they key.

I have heard that some software like VAG Tacho or VAG Commander is able to retirve the SKC but I have no expereince of this. Plus it costs a lot. An auto locksmith maybe able to get this for you.

Again with the service book if it was advertised as full service history they have to be able to prove that buy producing the service book. If they can't then they are in breach of contract. Again trading standards might be able to help, otherwise you may have to sue them.

If your engine has a diesel particulate filter then you should only use VW 507 00. Engine codes BPW, BRB, and BRC have particulate filters.

Cheers for the prompt response .... the garage never actually stated the car was for sale with two key so I’m inclined to sort out the second key myself ....

The service book issue is that they actually told me that they had it and at the time of hand over they couldn't locate it. So I might enquire more over that, but I'm not going to go down any legal route if they, as I suspect they will, simply say they haven't got it!

I will try and pick up some VW 507.00 engine oil tomorrow or Saturday ... it’s the same spec I used in my VW Passat 2.0 litre ... "think" it was Shell Helix the VW main agent sold me when I bought 507.00 last time

Just hope purchasing a second key isn’t going to be too expensive! ... ideally I would prefer to keep away from the Audi main agent if possible.

Am I right to assume that I can buy a “Non-Programmed” key on eBay and I then have the key “Programmed to my specific car by an Indy garage ... hopefully at a more competitive price that the Audi main agents :(

Yes BRB has a DPF.

You can put the PR codes in this site and it will tell you what most of them mean
