I drive A4 allroad 3.0 diesel, 59 reg. , 16 k on the clock. Last Friday it broke down - water pump failure!!! Has anybody come across this problem with these engines? Quite disappointing... On top of that the dealer in Shrewsbury told me that I would have to wait up to two weeks for a new pump! How is that possible????? :aargh4:

That sucks.

Water pump failures on the 3.0 S4 are a known problem - they used to fit a plastic one that was prone to failure up until earlier this year... they now spec a metal one. Not sure if the parts are common with the diesel?

Did it make a big mess of your engine bay? Make sure the dealership tidies it up!

There on back order and plastic casing leaks its a known problem and currently being dealt with hence the back order status whilst modified pumps are despatched

And on top of that, the service is appalling. Three days I tried to get hold of service department to find out what is actually going on! Don't go Shrewsbury Audi!!! Shame, because my Allroad is a great car.

sorry to hear this but I can only offer advise on the water pump and the current status of the replacement part.

None available at present or in this case a revision of the pump not in stock to supply to the dealers. As a fair few have failed the pumps returned to the factory have been inspected and a revised pump will supersede the existing one.Only affecting certain build dates so not all have the problem
Constant monitoring of warranty repairs and and returned parts highlights future issues so hopefully they can be resolved quickly.

Hmmmm. That is worrying. Were there any warnings signs or did it just let go ? I am doing a lot of motorway miles in my 3.00tdi over the next couple of weeks so any info would be appreciated

No, there were no warnings. I just stared up the engine in the morning and started driving. After hundred yards warning light went off. That's it really. What I can gather from previous posts this problem affects particular type of the water pump made at the end of last year and beginning of this year. The company pretends that nothing happened but waiting time for a new pump is up to two weeks! Clearly they can't cope with the problem. Shame!
