New A8 Factory Option Missing

Having patiently waited since June for delivery of my new A8 4.2tdi exec se. Delayed from September to November
Today when the dealer called I was expecting to be told my new car is ready for collection, I couldn't be more wrong.

The first words that came out of the sales guy mouth were "We have a small problem"

It transpires that the factory have forgotten to fit the reversing camera to my car and the error was noticed during a final test drive at the factory.
I can't understand how they could have missed this, even worse the reversing camera is standard on the exec se.

Audi have offered compensation of £2500 to take the car how it is.

OR

Have another one built and take delivery in march 2011 and in the mean time drive a courtesy car.

Having spent £115k on this car I think £2500 compensation is insulting.

I also doubt that the courtesy car that they will supply will be a new A8 or if they would allow 20000 miles to be put on their car. I would have to be on their insurance which does not cover travel to Europe.


There is also an issue about the increase in VAT which is about £3000.

To make things ever more worse I have sold my current car!!


Has anyone faced this problem with Audi and what are my rights in this situation?

Couple of options for you to consider:

I fitted the reversing camera to my 2006 A8, just bought the right parts for a 2008 car, fitted them to mine, recoded the controllers, and it now works perfectly.

Just a suggestion that your dealer should be able to fit the camera and control units to the car they have ordered for you, I'd have thought that £2500 would easily cover the cost of the retrofit.

Or you could get a generic camera kit for a much lower price and have that installed by a specialist.

Either option is a lot of trouble, and not something you would expect, having paid that much for the car, but it would get you on the road in your car straight away, and give you the camera functionality without too much delay.

Why dont you be cheeky and do both things, tell them that the money is good compensation if they retrofit the camera at their own costs, and you would accept that as a replacement for the troubles they have caused.

i would expect 3k compensation and them to retrofit the reverse camera.

as you quite rightly say, its not a ford, its a 110k audi.

for the money your paying i would expect no less.

The factory will not allow the retro fit hence new vehicle supplied, also d4 is completely different network system than d3 with additional flexray bus.There will be no retro fit offered by either the dealer or audi ag.
