View Full Version : A4 2.0TDI-e SE Technik - Anygood ?
Hi Guys, I'm a company car "user-chooser" it's that time again and I'm looking about. I'm currently in a Volvo V50 R-Design SE 2.0D and have done 60k, completely fault free with no hassles, it's a good car.
I am not looking for a sport wagon this time round, as the boot capacity in the saloons is enough. I have looked at the S60 D3 (Co2 is to high, not so keen on the front), 320ed (small interior, no standard kit but drives well) and now the A4 which looks good, is roomy on the inside and with the technik pack has quite a bit of kit. I will be driving it over the next week or so and it will have to be a really bad drive for me not to pick it tbh.
I'm looking to choose an A4 2.0TDI-e SE Technik. What I'm asking for is any views or pics (especially from owners/drivers) I tend to find asking in the forums is the best way prior to choosing, you guys tell it how it is, warts and all !

Make sure you test drive one. I'm a company user as well.
They are a beautiful car, loads of technology, super value. Indeed I have one on order, was due December, now late and will be Jan.
2 reasons to need test drive, not just a 30min job, but an overnight.
Check out steering, takes a few miles to get useto and the foot rest can get in the way for some. Had I test drove prior to ordering, I may have stuck with Saab, especially now they offer the 180ps engined saloon at 119gm/co2. Having said that the Audi is spacaous in side and feels and looks the part. Engine power feels better than the 136 on offer and goes well.

I've had my TDIe Technik for two months and everything was going fab, until someone drove into the back of it last Friday on hte way home from work !
I do about 600 miles a week and I get 53 to 55mpg. I haven't had any problems, the suspension is a little still due to it being lowered but other than that it's great. I would go for another tomorrow, and it's got enough buttons to keep me busy when I'm stuck in traffic.
Don't bother with a cd changer there's two SD card slots and I've got an 8gb card with all my music on.
Del
Thanks for the replies :) nice to have some user input !
Anymore users out there ?

I've had my 136 Technik since July 2012 and loved every minute of it! The quietness of the car is scary, the first few times i did long journey's i would find myself nodding off a little so having to turn up the music (loaded on the SD card) or the the iPod via the MMI (connected to the cable off Amazon/ebay for £12 - not bad eh!). Gadget-wise it has everything...SatNav, Bluetooth, Cruise, Auto Stop/Start, auto wipers/lights etc. Seats are very comforable too.

Sorry but I would offer a rather different opinion - the car is a con. Firstly, manufacturers figures for my 136bhp model is combined mpg is 65.7. I drive really, really carefully and my average over 11 months, 11,000 miles, is 54mpg, not good enough for me. Secondly, the car might be quiet when the engine is not under load, but when the engine is under load, it makes a low frequency groaning sound as if the engine is really straining, and this is quite unpleasant. Thirdly, the car couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding, way too under-powered. Fourthly, this is my first Audi after having VWs and the level of basic equipment in the Audi is very disappointing. The Tecnik has a lot of gadgets, but no glove compartment light, no seat back pockets, no load through back seat, useless door storage pockets, no illuminated visor mirrors etc etc. For me, this car looks fantastic, but it just doesn't deliver. As for mpg, this seems mainly to be due to a technical fault with the model which means the engine takes a long time to warm up and loses temperature very easily when the engine s not under load. Audi know about this and say they do not have a fix. I have got a partial compensation agreement from the dealer because of this poor economy but Audi have yet to give me a formal response to my complaint. First and last Audi, VW is where the real class is. By-the-way, anyone who accepts 53-55mpg for this model to me perpetuates the con that manufactures are pulling when they quote inflated mpgs and wild claims on efficiency and technology (e.g. the start-stop on the Audi is a complete joke.)

If think Audi is the only one with a quoted mpg issue, think again.....
True MPG - genuine, achievable fuel economy tests from What Car? (http://www.whatcar.com/truempg/)
having a search above will show you most cars are nowhere near what the quote! as for VW, I just looked up a VW passat bluemotion. 1.6tdi, says 65mpg, real world is 45mpg!
newer engines can be really good on emissions and fuel, but only in perfect conditions! I had a 1.9tdi passat (2003) and that did about the same as my 2012 A4, but the passat would have never have been sold in todays market because of the emission regulations.

c.grex I agree with your points BUT, take a look at the more extensive data on mpgs on honest johns real mpg web site (unlike What Car, he has data for virtually all VW and Audi models). You will find that Audi models generally get around 70% of claimed mpgs (I would be lived if thats what I got) whilst VWs get around 80% of claimed mpgs. I previously had a Golf 2.0 TDi GT (not a Blue Motion) and over 2 1/2 years and 27,000 miles, I got 94% of the VW claimed combined mpg - very respectable, whereas I get 83% of Audis claim for my A4. Now you tell me which manufacturer you would trust? Even my Audi dealer is embarassed by Audis extravagant claims on mpgs.

I genuinely find the car is very quiet under all circumstances, and this is coming from a previous vw passat owner. Admittedly fuel economy is not brilliant given the e-tag (mine says 37.1 mpg on computer 2), the engine is a little flat about 1200 revs but its a smooth and fairly brisk motor, not an A road blaster but effortless smooth power. Weve also got a bmw 120d (also start /stop) in the household (40.9 mpg on the computer- also short journeys), its a rocketship by comparison to the a4 but i never feel short changed driving my car, or feel that it is sluggish. Audi Equipment is also very good these days (the vanity mirror light thing is a bit stingy) and the interior quality stands up against anything.
i am on my second b8 s-line, having tried an octavia vrs petrol and passat highline diesel in between. The audi is way more expensive but in all honesty different class as an overall driving and ownership experience. Chuffed to bits with mine.

I picked up my TDIe 163 Technik early October last. To date I have only done 2000 miles but I love it - it is EXCELLENT - apart from one niggle. I paid extra to get the High Sat Nav etc, HDD for music, incl. Jukebox.
I wanted to load on my music as it appears on my computer (CDs and singles I've copied from my own collection - not from ITunes/an IPOD) with the relevant folder/file system showing.
The jukebox (I assume) expects everyone to be loading from an Ipod. What I found was that all of the folders were stripped away and just the tracks, sorted as the jukebox wanted, were retained. If I wanted to play a whole album the individual tracks would be at various places around the jukebox and not all together in their own folder.
So what I have done is leave the music on 2 SD cards and leave the SD cards in the system. It all works OK, so I can't use the jukebox, but it's not a disaster.
