For the regulars that come here, you may know that I had my engine rebuilt at the back end of last year.
Eitherway to cut to the chase, i was expecting to use oil during the run in period - which it has been doing.
Now i have fixed the ignition issues, ive noticed that the oil consumption has virtually stopped.
I religiously check the oil daily, especially after long runs, and before long runs. Its due an oil change this week (picking up fresh oil today). But I just found it a bit unusual. I was expecting the oil consumption to drop off slowly.
Each morning I check the car, and the oil is just below the top notch. Ive put appx 9k on the engine now and i was just wondering if anyone reckons this is out of the ordinary?
I did run some fuel cleaner (STP) which cleaned out the sludge from the fuel filter change, and hopefully helped clear up the carbon buildup from the lean missfires. 2 weeks later and its not had a performance drop so far.
Infact its been running so well that its restored a bit of my confidence in the engine again. Any ideas if this is a normal feature of a rebuild? The oil is very dark brown, definately needs a change - but the rate of colour change has slowed since the fuel filter change.
Anybody with a bit of experience to see if this is a normal situation please feel free to put my mind at ease.
I will check for sludge in the sump on the oil change, but with a fresh rebuild and after having 2 oil changes already this year (3 if you dont include the 500 mile change i did)
Also no coolant loss, and fuel consumption is reasonable (60+ on the motorway and between 28-35 in town depending on how bad the traffic is).
Blowby has reduced, and the breather is not producing as much oily vapour (none visible infact) - no smoke from exhaust, no foamy oil, or mayo anywhere.
Am I being overly paranoid? Ive already experienced one bearing failure, and I would sure love to avoid a second.
EDIT; Running magnatec 10W40 semi-synth since the first 500 mile oil change
