Hi guys

My A4 seems to idle a little high when i pull up then settles after a few seconds. Its a 1997 2.6 Quattro with 122k on the clocks and i hooked it up to Vag-Com it mentioned a charcoal filter which i was told to disconnect.

I did this but didnt make any difference does anyone know anything else i could try?

Also she dosnt like to be driven when cold she has to be kept under 2k or stutters like a mofo

Any help would be appreciated

The ABC engine can be a pig for idle issues. Often they need a new idle valve and the set up is quite involved, requiring a registered version of VAG-COM and the instructions on how to set it up. Just disconnecting the tank vent valve is not a good idea; if the solenoid is faulty it should be replaced.

Thanks crasher

Where would i get a new tank vent valve and is this the same as a charcoal filter?

Also not sure if its connected to my issue but when im driving my temp gauge sits just off the bottom but rises to mid point when stationary? I was wondering if this would cause the car to remain on "choke" im struggling to get more than 18mpg and i have a light foot.

Thanks again

The charcoal filter and the valve that vents it are separate, I would suggest buying both parts from Audi but you can get the idle valves aftermarket but there are two types depending on build date and you have to get the correct one. You need to replace the thermostat.
