Hi All.
I am new to the forum as I have just got myself an A4 B5 1.8T quattro.
Its a nice low mileage one (70k on the clock) and seems in good condition.
However, although its had a cambelt service done by the previous owner pretty recently (beginning of 2010) it looks/sounds like they didn't change the waterpump.
There is a grindining/dry bearing noise from the belts at the front when the car is idling and this weekend I changed the thermostat and noticed the pulley directly in front of the thermostat housing has play in it and there is rusty water/residue from around there somewhere. (I presume that this is the waterpump pulley?)

So my question is: Is it possible to change the waterpump without taking all the cambelt/tensioner etc all off the car or does it all need to come off to get the job done?

And therefore, can anyone suggest a good mechanic in the Surrey/Farnborough/Guildford area?

Any/all advice welcome.
Tom
