Hi Anyone and everyone, overheating problem still!!!!

I have a 1998 A4 1.9 Tdi 183,000 miles and it is overheating. I was advised to replace the thermostat but before putting the new one on feel inside to see if i can turn the water pump and if i can then it needs replacing. I did this and i was unable to turn the water pump so fitted the neww 'stat.it still overheats, so i have flushed out with hose pipe, the top hose, bottom hose, both hoses to and from the expansion/header tank in case any were blocked. It still overheats. The temp guage shows it overheating, boiling water is being forced back to the header/expansion tank and out the overflow pipe underneath it. I have tried bleeding it via the bleed hole on the return pipe going to the heater while engine running and water spurts out as though the pump is circulating the water but the bottom hose is cold. my m8 says to remove the 'stat and see if it still overheats as there might be a crack in the 'stat housing so gonna try that now.

Did you buy genuine stat? I had a similar issue on my golf and it was a faulty new stat from GSF.
There's a high failure rate on new stats, always test them before fitting

with the engine cold , remove the expansion bottle cap and start the engine. observe the water in the tank. it shouldnt do much. if it blows out, or if you can see bubbles in it, then its a hg fault.

Are you sure your water pump is not seized ? Can you feel it turning if the engine is turned by hand ?

Well advised. Have followed some of your threads zollaf and you seem to have your head screwed on compared to some other users that like to think they are very technical !
