Hi everyone

New to the site and am after some advice. I'm looking at getting a 2006 Audi A3 SPort TDI. Looking at service historys etc when should the timing belt be changed? is it still around 60k or 80k on the later models?

Also is there anything else you would advise to check on the A3 with this sort of mileage before I buy. Looking at having one off a trader but if not will have to buy private.

Would appreciate some advice or any pointers.

Thanks:D

Service book says 80k but but I think most people would recommend no more than 70k.

Some BKD code engines (2.0L TDI ) of that era were susceptible to what they call a 'porous head' problem. This happened mainly on earlier versions than 2006 but any sign of excessive coolant loss is usually down to one of three things, a hose, the radiator or the head. If it's the head you are looking at about £1,500 to fix.

If you buy then you are better going to a trader, getting at least 3 months full warranty and then keeping a careful eye on the coolant level.

Also ask for a diagnostic scan of the vehicle and get them to print you a copy. This will list any fault codes that are apparent on the car.

Good luck
