Hi folks,

Any advice or experiences on the B8 with the following?

1. Sticking fuel filler cap...doesn't always unlock with the central locking. I thought maybe something had got out of synch, but it now takes mutliple locking anunlocking before the filler cap unlocks!

2. Reverberation from the rear of the car. Jan 09 TDi with 32000 miles so far. I'm hearing a 'throb' from th rear of the car, particularly when slowing (off throttle) on smooth surfaces. Could it be a bearing going so soon?

Any help appreciated!!

Not experienced 1.
2..i) Are the rear tyres the originals?
ii) Have they remained on the rear for the 32k of their lives?
iii) Is the car 2WD?

Yep, tyres original (will need changing before too long), and car is 2WD.

I had a similar problem on my B7.
I was sure it was bearings and even took the car to a second dealer after the first one said bearings were fine and it was the tyres.
After dealer two said tyres I popped it to my tyre chap who agreed and offered to refund the new ones if it did not cure.
All three were correct and two new rears cured the problem.
Apparently if the tyres are kept on the same axle they will wear ridges on them.
Mine had covered 27k.

Worth a try if they are close to changing.

Good Luck mate and keep us posted

Fuel cap not affected mine, but my mates 2010 A4 had it after only 3 months and 1500 miles. Replaced under warranty.

The fuel flap problem will be the locking solenoid, get it replaced under warranty, there will be a fault code.

The noise is as suggested, tyres!! Check the inner edges for "saw tooth" tyre wear.

I have noticed the same problem with the fuel cap. I thought they had updated some software during service but I have now also noticed it's behaving differently every time. After reading your comments will take the car to dealer to get the problem fixed.

I have another "problem" or phenomenon that is bugging me a little. It happens at low speed when turning to full lock to either direction. I can feel small "twitch" there when full lock is reached and car is moving. It's like miniature understeer but I don't remember such feature appearing before. There's no mechanical noises but I can feel the twitch in the steering wheel.

Well folks,

Car was in today...filler locking solenoid and shroud both replaced under warranty. The new parts are to a modified design, so problem should not recur...seems this is a familar issue on the A4 (and A5 too).

Dealer service was excellent...car returned with a free-gratis oil top-up, washed and cleaned, and free 'health check'. Most impressed!

This is a bit creepy as my car has started doing number in the last few weeks. Get out of the car at the petrol station, car is still unlocked, push the fuel cap to pop it open and it stays shut. Its not stuck, its actually still locked. I have to lock the car and reopen it before the fuel flap unlocks. Sometimes I have to do it several times before it unlocks.

Strange thing is, I live right next to an Audi garage. On the way to work the Sales people all pop in the same petrol station with whatever they have taken home the night before to get a refill. Ive seen Audi staff do it on A4s, A5s and A6s so whatever is causing it, its common!

No idea if the pin that comes across to lock the fuel cap is dirty so its not moving when being unlocked

I thought I something in the settings for unlocking but you only get windows and door settings..... Service next week so Ill mention it I think, not my car so not sure how they will react as no doubt it will be sold at an auction within the next few months
