always starts no trouble early mornings for work whatever the weather/conditions
however when i come out of work and it's been sat there 10hrs it wont crank at all. dash lights are on but it;s like no power to the starter. it seems to be the warmth of the day/sun thats does something to prevent it cranking.
i start it by using a jump lead from battery+ to starter solenoid.
yet a similar number of hours sat overnight it's starts ok in the morning?
same thing if i stop on route for petrol or shops, no cranking.
was convinced it was ign. switch but tried temporarily plugging a new one in leaving everything in place but no joy??
what fault could explain this strange behaviour??

I would have said ignition switch so as you have tired that I would suspect it has an aftermarket alarm fitted which is intercepting the thick red/black wire around the ignition switch or behind the fuse box.

it has an aftermarket immobiliser (autowatch 239Ti) so i guess that could be the culprit although it appears to disarm ok when i use the touchkey?
it's so strange how the problem never shows itself in the morning...must be temperature related somehow??

Follow the red/lack back from the ignition switch and look for an intercept.

by that do you mean like where 2 wires join? ( sorry if im being thick!)
should i get 12v at the ignition switch if i test with a meter?

The red/black comes from the 50 terminal of the ignition switch and goes to the fuse box without any intercepts, make sure it is still as it should be. Any intercepts should be treated with suspicion.

i thought it might start this afternoon given it had been cold all day + cloudy/wet so no heat from the sun. it was only 10 degrees even inside the car but still no start, yet i'm sure if it were the same temp in the morning (which it could be next few mornings as going to be very mild) it would start.....very strange!!!!!

might be stating the obvious here, but are you sure the starter motor is good? only last week i had this happen to me on a transit van i bring home from work, drove home 5-6 miles stopped to get a paper from a garage came out and engine just refused to crank light all worked etc, had to get a bump start which got me home.Next morning expecting to have to bump it of again it started on the key as normal. When we looked closely at the starter motor whilst cranking there were sparks flying of the solenoid terminal that connects directly into the starter motor, replaced starter, no more trouble since.I had noticed a few days earlier that cold starts were sounding to be a bit of a struggle as if battery was going flat.
