Mornin all!

I'd quite like to renew my speakers and maybe amp in my '96 A4 Avant and have a couple questions that you might be able to answer to save me stripping my car down before I buy the bits:

Does the amp power just the sub or the rear speakers as well? What power is the amp and how many channels is it?

What size is the sub?

What size are the front and rear speakers (not the tweeters, they're fine)

How much of a nightmare is it to get to the amp/sub? It's all under the rear seat bench yeah?

How are the front/rear door speakers mounted? Are they in specifically designed pods (like a crappy Seat Ibiza I worked on once!)?

Think thats it, unless there's anything else I should know about?!
Cheers in advance.

Having had a long study of my manual I've got a better idea of how everything is mounted and how much work it is to get to everything.

The only thing I still cant find out is how many channels the amp is/whether it runs just the sub or other speakers too, anybody know?!

Hi. not sure if you were still looking for a reply . . but for what it is worth I have a 2000 avant (facelift version of yours): the rear output goes to the amp cables go down the drivers side, under the bench seat to the passenger side and then to the amp which is in the nearside boot trim panel. You have to remove it to get at the sub box where the sub and amp live. the amp is very small and behind the sub. The amplified rear sound is split to the sub and back to the rear door speakers. Remove the sub&amp (a bit puny anyway) and the rear speakers do not work. You cant really use the amp for an upgrade The signal to the amp is low level so without a replacement amp there is not enough power to run rear speakers directly. I removed the amp box and fitted an aftermarket 4 way amp driving the rear speakers and a sub box in the boot. sounds pretty good. am thinking of upgrading the front speakers next (hence being on this site) as they don't really cut it now
