Just wondering what could cause a lack of reading on the engone temperature? recently had a mechanic looking under the bonnet could the sensor or been knocked?

If it is the sensor does anyone know where its located on the car, the part number and a rough price please.

It's likely to be the coolant temp sender, this is dual function sensor which tells the ECU the coolant temp as well as sends as signal to the dash read out.

It is located in the the coolant pipe at the top left of the engine (the left being if you are facing the engine). It has a green connector I believe.

The part no from what I can tell is 059 919 501 A (might want to confirm with Audi before ordering), should cost about £20-£30. You will also need part N 903 168 02 which is the sealing ring (about £1).

Or you can get a pattern part from Euro Car Parts for about £15. Be careful with these as they might not come with the sealing ring.

Cheers

Sorry I was doing it from memory and got it wrong.

Reomve the plastic engine cover in the centre, the coolant temp sensor is circled in the pic:

The connector might be green on yours.

What a shame it was an easy change but has not fixed the fault!

I have no oil or water reading on the dashboard at all :(

Must of both not been working but only noticed the water, any ideas

Sorry to hear the hasn't fixed. Pain in the rear.

Hmm, does everything else appear to work? It could be a wiring fault or it could be a fault with the instrument cluster. Do you know anyone with VAG-Com/VCDS?

A fault scan might show something, otherwise a final output control test will sweep the needles of the dials and show if they are working.
