I can control all the windows except the driver's window. The door mirror switch does not work and neither do the switches illuminate when the lights are on. I have replaced the bank of 4 switches but still no joy. My question is this. Are the wires between the door and pillar the only way to access those wires? There does not seem to be a lot of room there. Where do the wires from the door go to in the car (not the door). Is there a plug at the end that i can disconnect. Is there a diagram or a "How to" re this problem? Any constructive help in this matter will be greatly appreciated.

I thought I had checked the wires between the door and the car, but prompted by your response I checked again and guess what :o......... a thick red/black wire had broken in two. It was well hidden, quite a way up the sleeve. I hope to fix it tomorrow and give you an update. Thanks bez101.

would you say it's best to solder the wires together?
or just twisting back togetrher and covering with tape?

solder if you can get in there
if not use connectors of some kind or twist and tape
but use a short lenght of wire if you koin old wire it will split again

I used an electric block to join the two wires together. I was not confident enough to solder them. It really was very tight in there. I will in the not too distant future replace the wiring loom altogether. If any one out there has performed this feat then I would love to hear from them.
If I can do this, then believe me, any one can.
