View Full Version : Please Help Left signal lights off
Hi,
I have A4 B6/B7 from 2003. I discovered a new problem in my car: Left front and back signal lights do not work, only the small side is blinking - and fast. And YES I have checked bulbs and fuse. The problem (as one repairshop said) might be in "a light control unit", which is behind the steering wheel (is there a such box?). Also he mentioned something about a "Convenience Unit". Does anybody have had similar problem or do you know how to find/fix/replace those boxes.
There is one thing, which might have caused all my errors in the car: moisture/corrosion. Few years back I had water on the floor (plenty) and that might had caused a corrosion in all connectors, if there are some under the carpet?
Has anybody opened the carpet and looked for the convenience unit? I have got replys, that the fault might be there - convenience unit corroded!
cheers from Finland

Could be a faulty or ill-fitted hazard relay switch.
Regards
Jim
Thanks, I´ll check, but where that might be?

The convenience box is located under the front carpet on the passenger side, they do suffer with corrosion if they get wet. Are there any other lights, electric windows etc that have stopped working? usually you will have a few things suffer if the box is corroded
Thanks,
One question: "passenger side" - left/right side? My car is in Finland, so just to be sure not to work on the correct side of the car!

And more:
Where is Electronic control unit "PSU 8E0907279E" and could also this cause the failure?

It is under the steering wheel. A quite thin and flat box that has plugs on one side pointing down and is stainless steel on the other side pointing upwards.

I wouldnt even bother looking under the steering wheel. If you have had water on the carpet, then there is a huge chance the connections in the convenience unit are corroded
Thanks,
And the conv unit is under the drivers carpet? Any idea where? I mean close to seat or pedals. All info would be most helpful. And one other thing; also my petrol tank level meter is somewhat odd. When it tells that I have 120km left, the tank is more or less empty! Can that also be a mallfunktion from the same convenience box?

see attached doc for location of conv unit
Thanks burkey1,
Still some questions: I suppose this pdf relates also to my 03 2.0 A4. And what is #11? Some mails describe that ccu is under the drivers seat, so I wonder about this number 11. And furthermore: where can I get/buy original catalogue from where you have taken this pdf picture, i.g. I need the manual.

Yes, this relates to your 03 2.0 A4. Its best when you quote your engine code here as well, as its easier be more precise for anyone willing to assist in the future.
11 is the “Driver door control unit – J386”
Check somewhere like here if you wish to purchase manuals etc. https://erwin.audi.com/erwin/showCustomerRegistration.do
Application I have is called elsawin 3.6
Thanks for good pictures etc. I followed your advice and got hold to the CCU, but unfortunately I could´t see any sign on corrode! So obviously the fauld is not down there - any other ideas?

do all 6 indicators operate when you press the hazard switch?
burkey 1,
Yes all 6 indicators are working normally when using hazard. They also operate when closing/opening doors with remote control key.

Try onboard power supply control unit, J519 location 13.
From what I can see, this is where all the turn signal wiring is located. There doesn't appear to be any seperate relays for turn circuits, except internal hazard switch.
Highlighted are left front & rear turn wiring/bulbs, and hazard switch..
Get yourself a multimeter!!!
good luck..
burkey1,
Thanks, and further questions before measuring with m-meter: If I find that there is no voltage coming out from J519 and from connector T23/6, what then? Ok, connector pin might be corroded - I will check that. But obviously inside the box J519 is not possible to look? And BTW how can I get hold to this J519 and those connectors?

If there is no output voltage at terminal T26/6 (with indicators on) then you most likely have a failed module. complete checks for poor connections etc...
This device will obviously get its signal form the stalk so check input signals also.
get box if faulty from main dealer or scrap yard!! have a look at hazard control before you condemn module.
Thanks for info,
Just don´t get how the hazard control could affect to back/rear signal, except that they are on the same connector at J519: T32b
And how to get the box available from the dash?
And is there available info on what equipment/parts/bulbs etc this J519 controls - any owerall connection schema? I have some other problems in my B6, like km meter shows 140 and still there is no fuel left in the tank?

have a root around for unit. its location and physical appearance are in the attachment I posted ”B6 hazard switch wiring”!!!!
have a look under steering wheel, above pedals, behind storage shelve. It shouldn’t be that hard to locate!! You are going to have to do a bit of looking here!!!
