I've just bought a 2006 VW Passat which has the PREMIUM telephone preparation in it.
I have read numerous threads regarding this (Nokia based) unit, rsap, etc.
(i.e. I understand the process: search from car, get 16digit code from car and enter to phone, etc.) It also sounds like a lot of people have this working (i.e. the BB 8900 does support rsap)

However, my unit is not even finding the phone...!
I have enabled ALL Bluetooth options (e.g. Serial Port Profile: SIM Access Profile), made discoverable, etc.
I have also tried the two latest BB OS versions (both 5.0.0.1168 and now v5.0.0.1385) i.e. I think I have exhausted the handset options...

So, my question...!
Is it possible to 'reset' the unit in the car? (there is still the previous owners profile listed)
Are there any 'firmware' (or any other) updates to the PREMIUM unit available?

Any other suggestions?
I love the car, and the phone integration functionality sounds great, I just want to get the darn thing hooked up!!

Hoping someone can help
Thanks
David

The Premium Bluetooth kit can only pair with a maximum of 3 phones. It doesn't tell you when it has no spare capacity, it just pretends to try and pair and then gives various error messages or just hangs.

It's a good idea to try deleting all of the previous owner's pairings, in case all 3 slots are used up. The menu system isn't all that intuitive but you will work it out eventually.

That's the good news. The bad news is that even though your BB model might be supposed to be compatible, there's no certainty it will work. Blackberry were useless at providing information when I investigated and Volkswagen were worse.

The best chance is with a Nokia. Most but not all the range is compatible and will pair eventually.

Some BB users have had success with putting their SIM in a Nokia, pairing that and then putting it back in the BB and trying again. I wish you luck, but the chances are you will have weeks of frustration before swallowing the bitter pill and buying a Nokia.

Thanks Teflon, good information.
I have since discovered that my 8900 Bluetooth isn't playing with anything! I've never had the need before, so tried from my laptop and also from BB to some other headsets... dead!
So, Orange are sending me a new handset this morning... fingers crossed that this one will play nicely with the PREMIUM. I shall certainly try the tips you have suggested - I like the one about using the Nokia to set the connection and then swapping the sim!

I have actually got the PREMIUM working with an old Nokia I had kicking around. Fortunately I also have a second sim on my number (Orange Single Number), as my old car had it's own phone. So, worse case I have to just have to leave the old Nokia in the boot, with a car charger and just remember to turn off my BB as I get in the car (as I used to)...

Hopefully the replacement will work and I can get rid of my second sim.

Thanks again
David

The new handset came with BB s/w v 5.0.0.681 - this paired OK and worked in first instance. I then tried to turn off 'discoverable' on the handset (thinking it would be OK, as already paired) and it wouldn't reconnect.... The PREMIUM stated 'connecting...' the handset flashed blue and pronounced itself connected, but the PREMIUM didn't agree! Eventually would get an 'uncaught exception ... bluetooth error on the BB. Bu99er! Also, only way to get BB back out of 'connected' (but not) state was to replace battery... Despite resetting it still wouldn't reconnect...

So, upgraded handeset s/w to 5.0.0.822. I have left 'discoverable' on, and so far (fingers VERY crossed) so good....

Hoping I don't have to post on this again....!!
Cheers
