View Full Version : Please Help Totally sick

No, really, I am thoroughly pee'd off.
I'll keep it to the short version here, as going into details would probably only serve to put my blood pressure back up, and its only just beginning to settle for the first time since Saturday night. :zx11:
On Saturday night, I collected 'someone' in the household from the pub, and 'someone' proceeded to vomit on the way home (apparently the words 'can you stop, I feel sick, are too hard) :aargh4: - - - anyway, the seat and the carpet got a liberal dose before I could pull over for the rest to be donated to the nearside sill and the gutter.
Despite the monsoon that was occurring, I decided prompt action was best, and made up a reasonably mild solution of Lemon Flash (the only thing to hand) with hot water, and sponge cleaned all that I could see. In a thoroughly foul mood, I took myself off to work to do my bit to help sort out the chaos caused by the floods.
Yesterday morning, I went to Halfords and bought some AutoGlym foaming upholstery cleaner, good strong cloths, and a couple of air fresheners and gave everything a damned good scrubbing.
This morning, I opened the car door, to be met with a stench that can only be described as like a pub loo - the cleaning had not worked.
So, I need your help please - what can I use/get/do to get rid of the stench of alcohol and puke?

a full valet would prob do the trick, i feel your pain altho when this happened to me a month ago the little man couldnt say dad in need to puke, it was juice, but christ it took some getting rid of the smell
Dads Taxi. Lol
Get the offender to clean it.
Luckily i've never encountered this scinareo before.
The wife used hot water and some Oxi fabric stain remover to clean up some dog vomit the other day. It brought the smell out and you will heave. Then maybe try fabreeze.

I am kinda thinking that the 'offender' should be taking lessons from the Dyson to make up for it ;) :D
A full valet would probably do it, but to be honest I can't afford it right now - still trying to get the money together for the timing belt, service and then some tyres.
The Oxi Stain Remover, is that like a spray thing then?
Someone at work reckoned that they read somewhere that pouring Coke over it would eliminate the smell, and then you just dab up the Coke with towels, and then clean the uphostery again????? Seems really odd to me.
The only other thing I can think of is to liberally sprinkle Bicarbonate of Soda all over the place, and leave it to absorb the smell.

have you or do you know anyone with a wet vax, or a carpet cleaner? you can use a house one in the car and that would do the job a treat mate

wet vax or carpet cleaner is a good suggestion - I've also used CG fabric cleaner with good results.
the key to getting rid of the stench, is to clean the fabric throughly
is it the rear or front seat which has been covered?
EDIT - I Think I have some of the CG FC in the shed fatboy - if you're struggling, give me a shout and I'll send you some down(up?)
the oxi stuff is powder. The missus puts it in the washing machine with the usual machine soap. She gets it from some sort of pound shop.
you could, in the meantime, submit your car to the school teacher as a homework project to get your own back for the eggs.

A VAX is a good shout.
A steam cleaner (domestic, not one for engines!) may also do the trick (test on an inconspicuous area first!). The heat generated should kill a lot of the the odour and will certainly kill of any bacteria lingering around.....
It will also get deep into the fabric/foam/sound-proofing which is probably where the stench is hiding.,...
Good luck!

Cheers :) I might take you up on that if I cannot get rid of the smell soon. :beerchug:

I like your thinking, but the thought of my nice motor and 20-odd six year olds fills me with as much dread as the smell of puke in the morning :D
I'm hoping that its going to be good old mum to the rescue - I rang her this afternoon, and she suggested getting a load of lemons and juicing them into some warm water, then liberally scrubbing the offending seat and floor with the solution, and to get it fairly wet; then follow up with the upholstery cleaner again, drying as much up as possible in the process.
I've just finished doing it, so fingers crossed it works!
Question now is, I am going to collect Mrs C from work in about twenty minutes - so, do I forewarn her that she needs to sit in the back, or do I let her get a wet bum before I 'remember' that I cleaned the seat? :firedevil
PS - what is CG Cleaner? Might be a good one to add to my armoury!

Well, the combination of lemon juice, upholstery cleaner, and Auto Glym Auto Fresh this morning appears to have done the trick - I say appears, as all I can smell at the moment is really strong chemical smells from the cleaners and air fresheners (much better than puke!)
Thanks for the suggestions everyone :)

Spot on my friend. I own a domestic steam cleaner and have used it for this very purpose and it worked a treat. Awful smell coming off in the steam whilst doing the job but it does work.
