EGR code help

Morning all. Got a fault code on the car. Happened once, cleared it. seemed fine, but its back again.

16785 - EGR System: Insufficient Flow
P0401 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded

Ok, so I need a bit of help on what to do.

I've looked at the wiki, but how do I go about checking the egr system. How do I test the valve?

This might be a bit silly but I took out the air filter and housing so I could get at the o/s light to change the bulb, and the maf was exposed... the day after this, the error came up. Could the problem somehow have something to do with the maf?

Any help would be very much appreciated. want to avoid taking the car to the dealer as I need it every day.

ok so it seems to be happening every 75 miles...I've got some time this weekend. I'm going to start taking apart some of the egr system. maybe some of the pipes are blocked. If I can get to it, I will try and take out the valve and give it a clean.

Anyone have any advice?

I cleaned this section of the system. The bit where the pipe splits was full of carbon crap. Anyway, hopefully it wont happen again. 9571
