I have previously posted on my Multitronic difficulties and the recent refurb (£2.5K) of the gearbox. Since then the car has developed an unusual but alarming fault.
From a fresh start the car drives normally at speeds up to about 40-50 mph. At speeds above that the car develops a thumping from the front end that feels exactly like you have a flat tyre (3 independent views (including AA!) have described it exactly like that - it is not a subtle vibration). Symptoms only exist when under power and stop immediately if you coast (forcing a different 'gear' on the Multitronic makes no difference. When the thumping has begun it continues at slow speed when under power.
The car is back with the gearbox people but they have drawn a blank so far. I cannot find these symptoms reported in any forum but can anyone help? If it is not the gearbox could it be the drive shaft or CV joints? I am scrabbling in the dark here as this is way beyond my technical understanding.
Any pointers I might offer the garage would be greatly appreciated.
