Hi. My introductory post, and I need help.

The block in my 1990 Audi V8 is badly damaged- a couple of cracks and even without those, it needed a skim on both head mating faces because of surface damage. The second crack is in the centre main bearing support, a crack into the oil port, and damage caused by the main bearing shells having picked up and rotated with the crank. So the crank needs a grind too. All in all, not worthwhile- it's not viable economically. the heads need a skim, but are otherwise viable.

My options are limited. I want it up and running fairly quickly.

A 3.6L PT engine is available. Easy replacement. could be back in and running in a day.

4.2L ABH block is available, but would need a full inspection as it is lacking heads right now (sold separately, but supposedly the engine was fine prior) Heads are available. But this could be too slow, so it's a reserve option.

I have a chance of 1 or 2 ABZ engines, which I understand share a fair amount of main mechanical components on the engine itself. But I would need to reuse the induction system of the PT engine, and it would need to mate up to the existing Auto gearbox. Is there anyone who has done this, or knows for certain that it can be done by a simple unbolt/bolt in exercise with the components that already exist? These 2 engines are equal to or less expensive than the PT engine.
