My 'new' car has S4 headlights and grill fitted. Not through accident damage (I have the originals). Do all S4's have xenon dipped?
Really tho the question is this, they don't appear to fit very well, there's a gap below the units. the std (1.9TDi) front bumper is fitted, not the S4 one. Would this expliain the difference. Also should they auto level in the S4, but manual level in the 1.9. I don't believe they level at all at the moment.

Theres an EU law that says;
"When xenons are fitted they must have auto level"
(or something like that)
I'm not sure, about how much it is enforced, but i think
it means that S4 headlights don't have a manual option.
On the gap; there should be a small amount of up and
down adjustment, of the whole unit, which you can
enhance with the use a few washers on the mounting bolts.
But it won't be much.

I'll try and get some pictures. units do seem to be fitted securely. I wonder if the lack of auto levelling means that they're stuck pointing too far down as a safety feature and the bodies have been aimed up to compensate.
Any idea how the autolevel system works. A seperate leveling ECU maybe?

Not sure about which ECU controls the level, but your
right about the default going to low, in the event of
"signal failure".
A good spark should be able to connect your dashboard
thumb-screw to the headlight motors via a device that
mimics the level sensors.

yes can probably sort that out. Does the bumper need to come off to get the light units out do you know?
Thanks for the help Jim,
Phil
