Jumped from a Golf Edition 30 to an Audi A4 2.0TDI SE.

Like the look of the audi but it tram lines like a *******!

My Ed30 ran 300BHP Bluefin with little or no problems.

Whats going on with this thing?

Is has got option 18" wheels with Potenza rubber, could this be causing the problem?

Its only done 10k.:(

Sorry about that iPhone was playing up.

Having an Edition 30 and a 2.0TDI A4 in the garage I have sympathy.

The ED30 is one hell of a car and wifeys is not modded, but ride wise the A4 is a league ahead.

I have not experienced your problem and I have 19's so I would pop it to the dealers for a check.

Like me I guess you are feeling the A4 is like driving in treacle compared to the Golf.

Hi Guys

In my experience the VW and Audis with north south engine mount and wider tyres tram line alot more than VW and Audis with east west mounting.

The other thing to check is the depth of tread, as the tread depth decreases the tramlining increases, IMO.

My present B8 (with 19") is a step forward from the old B7 I had and the old Passat my mum and had.

Hey ho. A4 3.0TDi on 19's here and no issues with tramlining. Bit odd in steering but I'll get used to that once I start using Dynamic more. But tramlining isn't an issue.

I did however notice a massive difference changing from a Subaru Imp STi with Prodrive kit to this car. initial reaction was where's the accelerator but now realise it just needs some time to adjust going from super fast, super tight petrol to S Tronic Diesel.

I came from a Golf to an A4 and felt similarly, however once I got used to the car I appreciated it a lot more. However mine also tramlines, I've now driven it 13,500 miles and only today I was aware of it's sensitivity to ruts in Lane 1 of a stretch of motorway.

My tramlining seems to have gone away since upgrading the front tyres. Can't remember what they are off the top of my head, I'd have to look back through the 'useless in snow' threads.

Edit - Michelin PS2s

Tramlining can often be sorted through tyre pressures and wheel alignment. I'd get a proper 4 wheel alignment done first, from a proper wheel alignment specialist, not a Kwik Fit type place.

My tram-lining dissapeared when I swapped the default Potenza rubber for different tyres.

I have Vredstein Ultrac Sessanta's fitted and I like them but other people have had success with other types, there's a few tyre threads on here.

Yes,fully endorse fitting vredstein tyres. They sorted out tram lining on my car and are brilliant in the wet

You haven't made a mistake....great car!!!

I had an early B8 1.8T SE with Potenzas, which tram lined really badly once the tyres started to wear (after only 12k miles). I swapped them for Khumo ectasport, which were much better.

I now have a 2009 same model avant with Continental Sport Contacts, which are also excellent.

Ditch the Potenzas!!!

I also have a Avant SE 170. The steering hasnt felt right since getting it in April. Its still on original tyres with 12000 miles covered, Its been back to the dealers several times who assure me that its as it should be. It tramlines really badly and dont think I will ever get used to it. Pathetic fuel consumption as well. Wish I still had my Skoda.

send it back to audi and ask them to do a wheel alignment under warranty - mine has S-Line 30mm lowered suspension and was scrubbing the inside of all four tyres. I dont think the alignment was done properly from the factory.....
