Can't believe it someone's just asked me whats a master cylinder,thought the latest driving test required the sitter to point out vital area's under the bonnet!

erm.
to be fair, I wouldn't expect anybody to know or indeed, point out what a master cylinder is.
It's not really the same as knowing where your spare tyre or washer fluid bottle is.

LOL sounds like me- the car's for driving, as long as it runs well I'm happy.
I know what a cambelt, turbo and alternator look like and that's about it, oh and a battery. :D
Point taken, but I would expect someone coming to the forum going down the DIY route would have some basic knowledge of a cars important area's
If you'd like your username changed, it can be done.

agreed, but one person's classification of an important area is another.
I didn't understand what ARB's, wishbones, tie rods were - until I started to replace them with my own hands.
I didn't understand (fully) how a VW Tdi engine worked, until I had a head failure and stripped one down.
The forum's here for people to learn from those more knowledgeable than themselves. Whilst we prod fun at common questions which could have been answered by a simple forum search, if we start to chastise members for asking about more complex components, we run the risk of alienating them.
