View Full Version : Which Audi?

Earlier in the year I sold my 2000 Audi A6 2.5 TDI and bought a Clio 182 - and yea it's been fun, but I do miss my Audi sometimes.
My partner is passing her test soon and she can't get insured on the Clio due to being under 25 and it having a non-factory standard exhaust (it's stainless steel, big whoop!).
So, I'd like to look at Audi's again..
So far I'm looking <£6000, Audi A4/A6 Saloon/Estate cars. I'm thinking diesel, but I still want a bit of oomph, whilst getting more than 30mpg out of it!
Although there's just the two of us.. I'm thinking estate because the boot room could come in handy, especially since we've just bought a house, moving big things to it could be made easier.
I'm looking for recommendations on what to get really, problem is when I look I keep upselling myself until I realised I've picked a car that doesn't fit within my criteria and I find it hard to talk myself down.. so if you can tell me a lowly 2.0 TDI is actually pretty good maybe I can feel better about them :)

B7 A4 Avant 2.0TDI S-Line, looks the biz and is economical. Some high mileage early examples should fit into your budget I would think.
For extra oomph there is always a remap.

There's a couple on autotrader for £6995, 05 model 119k/143k.
I do like it though! mmm might just have to see how I can increase my budget :)

Have you considered an A3? Might suit your partner well if she is a novice driver. Great visibility and easy to park etc. Plenty of 2.0 diesels around as well. I have one so I'm probably slightly biased although mine is petrol.
If you need the space though 2.0TDI should be plenty enough power for an A4 for everyday driving
Good luck with the car hunting

Thanks, though I think we may end up using the boot for furniture etc... so I think the estate is the most ideal choice.
Initially I really wanted a saloon/estate, my partner has assured me she'll be able to handle the size :)

You might want to check the volume of the boot, whichever car you choose. The A4's boot is ample, but (and I think you'll suffer the same issue with the A6) the height isn't massive - moving furniture would be fine with smaller bits, but larger sofas I think would be a struggle.
Within your price range I've found this online. Mind you, when I had an Audi A4 1.9 TDI the miles were 153K, and sold it when it covered 165K. I never had any major problems with it, only a few minor things! Even with those miles, the car was pretty fast and solid. It was fun overtaking other cars on the motorway, especially BMW's :D
Have a look:

I phoned directline tonight to get a quote.. and well they wouldn't insure my partner on the vehicle because she'll have only just passed her test when I put her on it.
I think my dreams are shattered, for a year at least.

Try LV for insurance. They're usually good value.
