Hi all, I took my car for a drive today (about an hour on the motorway) & when I got back i noticed the cooling fan was on, thought nothing of it but came back 2 my car 20 mins later, the fan was still going & there was a high pitched noise coming from the fan also.

I disconnected the battery then fuse incase it drained the battery then when I got home gave it a scan & had the following faults...

18359 - Radiator Fan 2 (v177): Movement restricted / Jammed

(clearly wasn't jammed as it wouldnt stop)

18354 - Control module 1 for coolant fan: defective

I guess these faults are because the fan is disconnected but is the fan staying on a common fault?

Thanks in advance :beerchug:

Is that all it is, ive read so many different things about people replacing both fans plus cowling but that looks quite a lot!

Thanks mate... is the small fan for the air con & large one for cooling?

the small fan as the fan control unit built into itNo, that's incorrect, the large fan has the control unit built into it! The small fan usually fails due to dirt ingress into it through the vent holes in the front of it, the vents are deleted on the modified one!

Both fans run together, if you switch the air con on, they both run at speed one all the time & switch to speed two if the engine gets above a certain temp. If the small fan fails the large one runs at full speed all the time.

Hope that helps.

So which fan would I need to replace? The small fan ran all the time wether the car was running or not & when the car was running the larger fan was running full speed like you said

With the faults you've got, I'd replace them both!
