Hi I have a 2009 B8, tdi 143 s-line. I was just wondering if anyone has any preference regarding oil they are using and the cheapest place to buy it.
Also should I be using 5w 30 or 40 fully synthetic as I got conflicting messages from the Audi 0800 number and my local dealer! (although both said to use Shell Helix)

As your car is on long life service mode, You have to use oil complying with vw audi norm 504- 507 ( fully synthetic)
You can use shell 5w 30 or any other brends complying with vw audi norm.
I am using Castrol edge 5w 30 ( long life 3) oil....

ASDA sell VW spec 504/507 Mobil #1 "esp" 5W-30 full synthetic for £32 for 5 litres.
You should always buy oil that meets the spec number in your car's manual . Buying oil by the generic description ( e.g. 5W-30 synthetic or Castrol edge ) can lead to buying the wrong oil. Make sure the correct spec number is on the container.

Of course, one must always use oil that meets car manufacturer spec....in this case its oil with spec 504-507 which should be used.... My Audi dealer offers both Castrol edge and Shell helix vx , both fully synthetic , 5w 30 and spec 504-507.
