Hi,

I have a 55 plate Allroad 2.5Tdi 180BHP.
Anyone recomend a replacement airfilter. I was thinking of a K+N type rather than keep buying paper ones. Anyone got any advice.

The only benefit you are likely to see is a slightly different (better?) intake sound and the fact that you don't have to change it.

You will be unlikely to get any increase in performance because although the engine can breather better it will be taking in hot air from around the engine, whereas the stock airbox and filter will be taking in the cooler air from the front of the engine. Even if there was a difference it would be too small to notice.

and there's the scary stories of how much oil / dirt the K&Ns give off to clog up your MAF.

I'd just change it with oem more often...

stick to paper.
If you over oil the K&N it will contaminate the MAF, if you don't oil it will not filter.

Paper should last 12 months, unless you are doing crazy miles, so it will take ages to save any dosh.

Thanks chaps,

I was thinking of a replacement panel to go in the original airbox but if experience is that the factory filter is good enough it only leaves the cost of replacements which is probably slight.

Oem it is then.

I don't know if the Allroad is the same but it cost me £35 for a Pipercross panel filter for my old 1.9 A6.
You do need to buy the right cleaning stuff for them though.
