View Full Version : Question GT TDi 150 - Excessive amounts of an oil like substance leaking from a gap between intercooler pipe and pressure hose??

Hi all,

Got 2 issues here.

1) I have a weak connection on my 150 GT TDi between the aluminium intercooler pipe and the metal casing of the short rubber pressure hose, situated just in front of the drivers side front wheel. The connection mechanism was damaged by the mechanic (cowboy) that changed my cambelt last December and so is only connected at one side of the pipe but it has held alright since.

Anyway I've been using it as usual, haven't noticed any considerable side affects except some extra whistling like noise when accelerating. I haven't got round to sorting it out....til now. Went to inspect it yesterday and found A LOT of what I can only describe to be a very black but quite thin oil like substance all around the gap and I assume through the whole system? Any ideas as to what this might be and is that standard?

2) 2nd hand parts - does anyone know of any good 2nd hand car parts dealers etc.? Need to replace the part but don't want to pay VW around £150 when I get one 2nd hand at a much more reasonable rate. Have tried 247 Spares who quoted me £50.53 INC VAT and delivered. Anybody got any other ideas?

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers.

J.

The black thin substance is oil its a mist as it goes through the system but as it leaks out becomes liquid again you can buy intercooler seals cheap as chips from vw hope this helps

Yes the oil in IC piping is very normal on most (all?) cars where the crank case breather is piped back into the air stream.

My 150 has some oil on that same connection, and when i get chance i'll take a better look..
