Hi all i am the sad owner of a t5 2.5 that has given me nothing but trouble!I have had no end of problems with it over boosting and also the starting issue and now it seems my fuel tank is bubbling with air.My local mechanic put a small vent in the tank whcih has stopped the air coming out when i fill up,but it still gurgles and he hasnt got a clue what is causing it.suffice to say when this one bites the dust ill never buy another vw t5 again!cost 11k for the van and ive spent over 6 grand on it in a year,so much for vw reliability i have also got an alfa spider and it hasnt let me down in 4 years lol!Any help with the fuel issue would be appreciated, thanks all

I get the same when I fill my T5 (& the T4 previously) on the very rare occasions that I have used supermarket diesel which, AFAIK does not usually contain an anti-foaming agent.

99% of the time I use only Shell V Power (or BP equivent) - I get 32mpg on a 130bhp LWB that is always 3/4 loaded & driven hard.

The T4 exceeded 250k (miles) & the Vito before it the same - neither ever had the injectors/fuel system touched. Many other T4/T5/Vito owners I meet tell me of various problems with injectors/fuels systems at anything from 30k upwards - guess what ? - they all use (or used to use) supermarket diesel..................

Yes, I pay a little more at the pump but I don't really notice it - I certainly would notice a bill for new injectors !

Actually, I've just remembered that my vans previous to these - a Transit & two Astras all covered the same milages with the same results.

Well thanks for the advice but all i have ever put in it since i had the van is bp ultimate deisel,my mechanic did take the tank off and got a lot of black sludge out of it,but i still have the same issue which is really beginning to hack me off!Now he put the vent in under the fuel filler cap and the fumes from the deisel are getting into the cab, which is not nice at all!Anyway,i think im going to get it taken to a specialist, ive got to get it sorted so at least im not sucking deisel !Oh and i got the van with 38000 on the clock in april 2009,its now got 89000 on it and has been fully serviced,my mechanic has checked all the injectors and cleaned them also he cleaned the egr valve out, i put good oil in it and treat it like i do my alfa but i still get aggro!would be nice to know what actually is causing the tank to do this as i can assure you it isnt cheap deisel.Hopefully a trip to a specialist will do the trick, can anybody recommend one local to kent/surrey border area?Would be good to get it sorted as i am at my wits end. Also just before it overboosts i get a whistling noise like a dump valve(possibly egr valve)it makes a noise then the turbo overboosts could this have anything to do with the overboosting? Thanks all

Very strange, so we can rule out diesel without anti-foaming then. Mine only does it with supermarket diesel. Maybe there is a vent that is blocked or has someone fitted an anti-syphon device to the filler ?

The specialist that I use (they are all VW trained) is in Margate - probably too far for you to go, but if you want I can let you have their details.

it is a pain in the butt,my mechanic recently fitted a new vent to release the pressure, this has worked but i still have the overboosting issue.I spoke to him today and he says an ecu re map might do the trick,as it will by pass the limp mode circuit altogether,as well as giving me another 40bhp;);););)Fingers crossed it will all work out when it goes in next week, ill keep you posted as to if i need that address, cheers mate

Try using a Vacuum pump directly onto the VV turbo cell and watching the movement of the actuator rod, it should move freely with Vac. and on venting.

Be interesting to see how your remap works out - if it is OK I'll be asking you for a phone number !
