hi all,

my wipers started acting slow at startup a week ago but always returned to their normal speed after a few seconds.

until today when no mater what i did they only completed 1 wipe, then stopped for about a min, then another wipe. when eventually they stopped working completely.

so my question is, is this the wiper motor? a seized linkage? or electrical?

if it is the motor or linkage? is there a difference between the various A4 models?

thanks in advance,

Most likely seized linkage. There are a good few guides on here if you do a search. I had this issue with the drivers side linkage. If you take the plastic cover that is over the battery off you can see it.

If it is the linkage it is definitely worth replacing.

I followed some of the really helpful guides on here to strip mine down but as I tried to take out the seized rod I cracked the alloy bracket.

I checked salvage yards who would do me a 2nd hand linkage for £45 but when I checked with an Audi parts specialist they had a new linkage (with the new covers to prevent reoccurence) for only £60. The new parts fitted in easily and fingers crossed I have had no problems since.

If you successfully strip it right down, the likelihood is you will be doing this again in a years time. Definitely a fault that should have been recalled but if your planning on keeping you car I would fit the new linkage.

Best of luck.

yep, but tried to have a proper look last night and the wiper arm is seized on to the linkage. :zx11:

looks like i need to have a pro do it :zx11::zx11::zx11: :aargh4::aargh4:

If you have enough confidence it's not a bad job to try yourself. A good bit of WD40 and pressure from a lever behind and a few taps popped mine. Thinking of changing to aero wipers as well so I was hapy to free mine up regardless of this issue.

my wipers went into go slow mode earlier in the year. New linkage from audi as above roughly £60.00. It is a bit of a job to replace the linkage arm so if your not comfortable with it, there is no shame in taking it to a pro
