After failing in my attempts to convince my other half this was a great addition to the car, I have been forced to sell all parts to complete the autohold retrofit...
This includes the switch and the wiring as per the guide posted on theses forums. It'll be visible in the for sale section, when it's been approved for listing.
Thanks for reading, hope someone wants to complete this retrofit!

Who cares what she thinks, fit it anyway as it's ACE she doesn't have to use it. Man up fella ;)

Really... i WANT to wear the trousers... just always don't get the chance to ;) :)
Anyway, VW did accept returns on all but a wire and housing... So the money down the drain was down from £39 to £5... then immediately ordered new boot struts, which do need replacing pretty quickly...

Try telling someone not technically minded that although it's a function that uses the parking brake, I'm not going to brake the parking brake, or put lives at risk by fitting auto hold AAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!
Lost the will to win the argument, so moving on to other things... Definitely one of those things you have to do, without saying anything, then just claim the button was there all along....

My arrangement is: I don't give advice on fruit crumbles and what goes in the washing machine; OH doesn't give advise on what the car needs - 'nuff said. My Auto Hold is GREAT by the way & perfect for a DSG box!

No worries! I'll just make sure it's all standard in the next Passat - R36 I think ;)

Hey, at least I won the most important discussion of them all - to get the Passat in the first place... Who knows what else I could have been driving now... Kia anyone?! (no offence meant!)

Auto Hold doesn't use the parking brake at all, it just keeps hydraulic pressure on the foot brake system by using the ABS/ESP components.
It actually gives the parking brake a much easier life as you only use it when you turn the engine off.
What would she do if you bought a newer PASSAT with it fitted as standard? :)

Wrong... Does use the parking break, if stood for 1 minute or so, open your windows and listen for the motors at the back :p

I thought it was just the front pads doing the holding.

Logiclee is correct. Pressing the EPB button activates the ABS unit which uses brake fluid pressure to apply all four brakes. If the car remains stationary the EPB will switch on the rear motors whichl wind out the pads. It depends how long you are stopped for. It's the same if you press the EPB button at speed. Pressing the EPB button at speeds above 7 kph activates the ABS unit which pulses brake fluid pressure and applies all four brakes for a controlled stop.

3 minutes according to the handbook I believe. :p
Don't need to listen for the motors, the handbrake light comes on. In 5 weeks I've only had the car do this once at roadwork traffic lights. Auto Hold time is long enough to cover normal traffic lights and junctions so certainly cuts down on how often the handbrake motors are used.

If it comes as standard there wouldn't be an issue.. it's the DIY fit being the problem. On the plus side it saves me a 4-hour job and the money has gone to other improvements on the car (the boot starting to sag down when open being one of them)... Would love to do the fogs but too pricy at the moment...

On mine (retrofiited) the handbrake light doesn't come on when the parking brake is applied after 3 mins.
It does when you take your seatbelt off, open the door or turn the engine off though

That's interesting, mines a 2010 with standard fit autohold and I noticed the handbrake light coming on on mine.
