Hi all
I have a fully registered VCDS, updated to the latest version. I have some experience with this and a fair bit with the 1551/2 which I also still have.
One thing I have noticed is people describing adaptations and adaptions and feel this is a little confusing as what they are actually doing is re-coding in order to change various functions, adaptations on the other hand are learned values on an adaptive system, this allows for engine wear etc. to have little effect on for instance idle speed as the vehicle can adapt itself to counter wear etc. these values can usually be forced or erased to allow changes or for starting fresh, if for instance fitting a new engine or fuel puimp etc. and therfore should not be confused with the simple re-coding of control units to alter functionality, usually of things like central locking.

I stand corrected on this one, most of my experience has been with engine management only, having delved into the controllers on my MK4 Golf i see that adaptation can be carried out within these in order to select different functionality, ie I now have doors that lock at 10mph and unlock when removing the key, this was done in the adaptation channels and i now have doors that all lock/unlock together, this was done in the coding.

So I learn something new, what other functions can be altered?
