Right, the story goes like this, recently my mother bought a 54 plate allroad, one of the run out models.....
The day she got it from the dealer, (thank god, MAIN dealer), she had trouble getting in the drivers door, and the abs traction control lights came on, well, i have an E39 beemer, and if the battery is low on power, the abs lights come on as the sytem seems to shut down systems ig there isn;t enough juice to run them, so i said, use it for a while, its been sat at the dealers for a while....
Well, a few days later and a few hundred miles later, and the lights still came on, at random times... and sometimes not at-all....

So, the local dealer looked at it, and diagnosed a fault in the wiring loom, ordered that part of loom, and a week later fitted it...... light still on..:(

So they booked it in again for another week later, this time to investigate more..... they diagnosed 'either' the abs ecu, or pump...... so, as under warranty, they rang and asked permission to test drive with diagnostics plugged in...... as both are expensive items, well, the system said ecu, so they changed that............. light still on....
So eventually they order a pump, and have now fitted that, lights off...............
However, mother picked the car up on monday, and today, guess what, the damn light came back on, but it only ever comes on when in motion, never when sat still..., so my understanding is that it should be wheels sensor/ring related......
they have now arranged to order a complete set of sensors, and fit them next week, fingers crossed it'll fix it....

The question is this, does this sort of agro sound normal with people using main dealers...??? cos i think its crpa that they haven't after all this time been able to actually fix it........

Any opinions would be very much appreciated....

One thing we are grateful for is the full warranty..... god only knows what the bill would be by now!!!

Two possibilities,

They don't know how to diagnose a problem
Or the problem is intermittant - they test it, it won't go wrong or only for a nano second then it's OK.

As you say, you are lucky you got the full warranty and your dealer is willing to look at it. Many main dealers have a quick look, decide it's hard work and back pedal. So you my have been without the car but just imagine the earache the service manager is getting for using all those parts and still having an un happy customer.
