View Full Version : B6 Passat DRLs... What's gone wrong?

Hi
I had DRLs enabled through VCDS last year. I know the guy struggled to enable them and may have messed a few options up...
Basically the situation is that the DRLs function fine with all lights off.
With sidelights on when moving, there is no difference at the front - the DRLs are still on. However when you apply the parking brake, the DRLs go off, the sidelights come on, and the interior illumination comes on (then off when you move again)!!
The full lights position operates fine - with dipped beam, sidelights and rear lights.
Any suggestions from those who know VCDS?
Thanks!

There are two basic options for drls on the b6 passat - american (only the front headlights come on and only when the handbrake is off) and scandanavian (all lights on front and rear, same as the dipped selection on the switch)
You can mess around with intensity etc but I think the best bet is for you is to hurry up and retro fit auto hold so you don't have to use the parking brake except for parking!!:D

sjolliff... PM'd....
I will do the auto hold fit this weekend coming hopefully, regarding the DRLs, only the sidelight switch position seems to have gone wrong... otherwise they work as they should..
thanks

I don't think anythings gone wrong, so to speak, you probably just haven't noticed it before.
When you've enabled DRLs the sidelight switch doesn't do anything, so long as the DRLs are functioning, the sidelights will be overidden.
With north american DRLs, though, when you apply the parking brake the DRLs go off and therefore if your headlight switch is in the sidelights position, it now has nothing overiding it and will suddenly play ball. This will include turning on the interior dash lights.
Two solutions
1/ Don't bother using the sidelights switch
2/ Less mooing and more milking with the autohold retrofit:D. I guarantee you'll wish it was the first mod you had done.

LOL... ;) Setting aside a few hours this weekend to do it! Already purchased everything needed.

.
Thing is there are a number of us in the B6 section that have North American DRL's enabled and they work as they should when the lights are turned off but when sidelights are turned on you get sidelights. When sidelights are turned on the DRL's have no influence.

sounds like something to be checked with VCDS - it seems the DRLs are set to override everything!

Turned on N. American drls to double check today.
The drls definitely overide the sidelights as I said, which, if you think about it makes perfect sense - using drls mean you don't have a need for switching the sidelights on!
I see you have a more up to date model logiclee, perhaps the electronics module is different on yours.
