Just called my local Audi dealer to book in for its free MOT and price up having the cambelt changed as it's coming up to 4 years since it was last done. Apparantly Audi have revised the recommended change interval to 5 years or 75,000 miles (whichever comes soonest). They also no longer automatically change the water pump, instead they inspect it and advise based on inspection - supposedly they used to send off the old water pumps to Audi in Germany and they found that nearly all of them were perfectly serviceable.

My old MK4 waterpump was only about £30 exchange for genuine VW pump. For this price its not worth messing about. Is the pump going to last another 5yrs & 75,000 miles ? Some pumps are now only available on exchange . VAG re-manufacture using the old core. How do Audi "inspect it" ? A "twirl" and "spin" of the fingers I think without removing it.
