easy enough to swap as long as you have the kit,and i dont think you will notice a difference between solid and a dmf.....none of our customers have......

cheers, wel once its fitted there wont be any more bother, the only thing to fail is the clutch or the release bearing, which 9 time out of 10 never happens.

Working in the motor industry, we do not recommend replacing a dual mass with a solid flywheel... we had a presentation from one of the large clutch manufacturers which showed gearboxes destroyed due to these kits...
Thinks about it... the dual mass is there to take out the vibration, if you remove it were does this vibration go? through the crankshaft and gearbox shaft!
Ford did a conversion on the Transit van when they had issues with dual mass flywheels, BUT they had to fit a damper to the crank pully to compensate for it's removal to take the vibration out.
Once they had rectified the problem, they went back to a dual mass set up..
Although we do sell one or two of these conversions, and we have had very few issues so far, we always state "fit at your own risk" I am not saying you will have any issues, we just say beware of what can happen ;)

hi
I've just bought a new dmf full kit for my transit, I flirted with the idea of a smf conversion but decided as the original was a dmf and had done close to 100k miles, I would be best replacing like with like, For diesel golfs I would not advocate a smf conversion as these engines have a huge amount of torque going through the transmission.

had mk 130 gttdi and had it done, done about 10,000 miles before little noises came back, looks like my 105 mk5 tdi one is now going....going to switch to single clutch, again for reasons previously mentioned

I would have no hesitation in replacing the DMF on my car with an old fashioned single mass flywheel, but I think it would be essential that the new clutch centre plate had cushioning springs. After all, Skoda do a "taxi" conversion clutch kit for the Octavia diesel with a single mass flywheel, and it is unlikely that they would do this if it caused any other problems. In my view, it should be OK on any of the other VW 1.9 diesels.

I agree.I can not seen any issues with running a single mass flywheel with a 1.9tdi engine after all would I be correct in thinking that the older (1998)VW Passat tdi 110bhp model (non pd) did that not run a single mass flywheel? If it did the bhp and engine torque being almost identical to a 105bhp pd tdi engine. Then I can only think the gearbox should be able to cope with the grunt developed by the lesser powered 105 tdi pd lump. What do you think?

Try ebay, just type "vw 2.0 tdi flywheel clutch" in the search. You will find quite a few options.

Yes, I agree. However, the issue is not the torque, but vibration. Don't forget that the proper SMF conversion kit will have cushion springs in the centre plate, which should take up the vibrations.
