My old mans aircon is playing up on his 2003 A6 1.9 TDi when you start the car and turn on the aircon (econ red light out) the aircon clicks in and 10 seconds later goes off! stays off for 30 seconds then back on for 10, so on and so on!!
there are no faults on the car, and the air con is gassed up and at the correct pressure when its running, anyone any idea's? it has done 200k almost but had f.a.s.h. to 185k any one any ideas? would have expected to see something on vagcom for this!

some compressors do click in and out but not at 30 sec intervals when did you have it gassed up last ? it sounds like you have to much gas in there

i have checked the pressure on my Gauge it runs lower than my 2.5 v6 the gauge i have says normal pressure is 35- 45 (green zone), my old mans runs at 40 dead in the middle of the green when its running 150 when it trips off!
my 2.5 tdi v6 runs at 45 top of the green and 150 when off.

i take this is the high pressure side ? and your figures are psi .....low side should run about 2bar high side about 10bar to 15 bar can you read both sides or have you only got one gauge ?

Now i kinda did have this thought enter my head from owning a mkiv golf!! yet these audis have a belt driven fan which runs all the time, the electric fan doesn't come on when the aircon is turned on on either my V6 or 1.9tdi, but it does kick in on low speed as the temperature increases!

from what i can make out your system has either too much gas or the gas is getting to hot, difficult to tell via a web site but if you check the low side as well it would be handy as you could have a tx valve problem and thats easier to spot with a low side gauge....dont suppose you know how much gas was put in do you ?
