Clutch/Engine Fault?

Hi Guys and thanks for any help offered in advance!.My wifes Golf Plus TDI has just started making a noise from the engine/gearbox when its at idle however as soon as you step on the accelerator the noise stops. Could it be the clutch bearing? or something more expensive?..Many thanks Scott

What kind of noise is it making? A rattle?

Andy thanks for replying so quickly..Yes it sounds like a rattle and when my wife took it to a garage because she thought it was the exhaust rattling thw mechanic said it was probable the cluch bearing.??

If it sounds like a chatter type noise it may be the Dual Mass Flywheel (DMF). Best to get it looked at. They can soldier on for thousands of miles and they can explode and smash the gearbox, si it's worth checking.

Does sound more like a DMF issue. Does it judder/vibrate under load?
