My a4 TDI quattro 130 (2003) has recently started to vibrate a bit too much when at high speeds on the motorway. Accelerating or worse still accelerating through a bend on the road will make it more pronounced.
I see my tom tom on the windscreen jumping up and down as I drive!
I have recently had:-
4 new tyres
All 4 wheels balanced (a couple of months after new tyres in case fitters balanced them wrong)
4 wheel alignment
Front wheels switched to back and visa versa
It's going into the garage next week but I am expecting the good old excuse of 'Sorry sir but to test the fault we need to break the speed limit and none of our technicians will do that' (what an old chesnut)
Any ideas???

OK, will ask them to check that out. Car has done about 60k now.
Thanks for your suggestion

Can you drive through it and are they standard wheels / alloys?
I had a similar problem after having tyres changed and it ended up that the garage had lost a plastic ring that sits on the axle and centralises the wheel.

i bet.. a weight has come off one of the rear wheels..
The A4 B6 really suffers from rear wheels which are not balanced correct.. best beat.. get 15 - 15 on each side..

What is this plastic ring? We changed discs and pads the other day and saw no plastic rings anywhere and it didn't look like anything was missing. We had all 4 wheels off one by one.
I assumed it was wheel balance initially so had all 4 wheels re balanced, it reduced the shaking slightly but it's still there.

If you had fitted no standard alloys you may have needed a spigot ring to overcome a difference of centre bore sizes - a plastic ring.
It could be the tyres themselves too, it's a long shot, but do you have any other wheels you can try?
My tomtom rattles and shakes like mad on some roads, but the car's lowered so my head rattles and shakes at the same time :biglaugh:

It's a totally standard car, running on 16 inch factory fit alloys and 4 Goodyear F1 GSD3 tyres.
